Many people don't even think of the concept because it's not available for cars on the basis of being illegal, but it's perfectly fine to use for bicycles and can be freely purchased.

Yes! I literally put my studded tires on last night and it was a dream getting home in the snow. They were on the spendy side for me (I want to say $90 US per tire?) but I used them all last winter and they show very little sign of wear, and only had to replace a handful of the studs all winter, even with it being an e-bike and carrying a lot of stuff. So I expect to get years of use out of them

Do you change them as needed? Or have a spare Wheelset or something?

Doesn't snow a lot here, so I usually just wing it on normal tyres the few days it happens. But I ain't getting younger. Current idea would be to get a second set of wheels (rear just a singlespeed) that fits my commuter bike and just having the spike tyres on there permanently

Yeah I just change them as needed (a spare rear wheel is pretty expensive when the wheel has a big motor in the center of it), but I also live somewhere where "as needed" works out to be: put them on in november/december, and then take them off in like, april, so I'm not swapping on the fly

Maybe it's because nobody wants them in 26"x2" size but apparently they're on sale for like $65/tire rn. even cheaper than I got them at my local bike shop last year
