It's extremely condescending, that's why. It's the line libs jump to when they get sick of arguing with you and want an excuse to talk down to you.

And it's particularly insulting given that I have no doubt many of us did contact our various congresscritters. I called my two senators and single house rep in addition to calling Bernie's office, and it didn't make any difference, as anyone could have predicted it wouldn't.

I didn't contact my people because I'm not a moron so I know it's a waste of time.

      My rep is fucking stefanik.

My Senators are Schumer and Gillibrand.

If I contacted any of them I'd get put on a list of terrorist sympathizers and have my name coincidentlly removed from the voter rolls for an 8th straight election.

Walking into the woods and literally screaming into the void would objectively be more pragmatic then calling them because at least I'd get to take an enjoyable walk and relive some stress in the process.

The lib response of contacting your reps and letting them know how you feel might as well literally be "write Santa and ask for a ceasefire for christmas"

Nobody telling you to write your congressman thinks it will impact anything they're just basically means testing your frustration saying unless you've wasted a bunch of time and energy doing pointless things you aren't allowed to make valid criticisms.

Ah, I see, I guess it's an understandable response if you really think it's them deliberately being condescending. Thank you for explaining!

Maybe I'm just a lot slower to ascribe that maliciousness, but I didn't feel that. My vibe was just that they didn't know what else to say, a position people inevitably get to when they only work with surface reasoning.

This poster had been shown quite a bit of patience and decent arguments and continued to just be a debate nerd. It was justified violence.

I've seen this sort of thing play out before. If you engage them in good faith, they'll ask for a source on your claims, only to dismiss it and demand a different source that agrees with them. Sometimes they are willing to listen, but sometimes they come in and open with smug condescension and only get worse from there, their goal is to suck up all the oxygen in the room and waste everyone's time. Once they're clearly doing that, a quick and succinct PPB gets them to leave.
