Long story short me and my car got hit by a bus and the guy took off. I'm fine, but the car is damaged. I need to pay for most of the repairs because of insurance issues. I can afford it, but it's still expensive. I'm starting to have self-doubt, this is my first car accident 😭

I'm confused, the car insurance is for if you hit something or someone else to pay them, surely? Why's it gotta have anything to do with how much your car costs?
I'm reflecting on how much value has been extracted from me. If I had been able to keep the yearly insurance payments, I could have bought the car all over again.
