The most interesting part of the video in my opinion was the discussion of the energy grid. You need a lot of energy to do things like steel production, and US grid is already at max capacity right now. So, doing any sort of reshoring of manufacturing would require massively expanding the grid. China on the other hand, spent a lot of time investing in their grid and figuring out how to do stuff like distributing electricity efficiently over long distances.
To state the obvious: there is no single yardstick by which to measure the aheadness of something as complex as a huge country.
