I have probably 30 something games on EGS and have never actually bought anything. It is worthwhile to add the games to your Steam library so they actually have controller support.
I bought something on EGS once because it was on discount and they had a stacking coupon that made it even cheaper. Other than that, I have like 300 free games on my account lol. Never had issues with controller support so far, but I wouldn't put it past them since EGS has a pretty shit interface.
It was for the original Darksiders that I couldn't get to work with my PS4 controller until I added it to my library and now I usually just do it because I'm a lot more likely to play it. I can't say I ever really open the Epic launcher except to add a free game.
Too busy dumping money into free games to desperately get people to buy something on their platform.

That makes sense - I've heard playstation controllers can be kinda fiddly.
