Israel’s “right to defend itself” is invoked constantly by its supporters, but international law says Israel cannot simultaneously occupy Palestinian land and attack it as a “foreign” threat, or treat those resisting as enemy combatants.
I’ve been saying this since October 7th. Not only is what it’s been doing in Gaza illegal, shooting at Hamas combatants on October 7th was a violation of international law. The legal thing for Israel to do when Hamas trucks pull up at the gate is to surrender and give them what they want. Any sort of counter-resistance is a violation of international law, as it should be.
