I don't know if that was patched later, but my BG3 playthroughs involved him cordially inviting me to romantic retreats using illusion proxies when I barely fucking talked to him and didn't even have him in the active party. He had this

    spoiler

"woe is me I fucked the goddess of magic and am too awesome in an insatiably magic-destroying way"

thing that reminded me a little too much of parasitic former acquaintances that were never, ever fully happy with anything.

    TL;DR fuck off, Gale. guts-rage

They did change that, very early on. There was a bug with most characters romance score getting too high too early.

Anyways Gale's whole thing is he's a dude who got too big for his britches. All of the characters have some major, critical impact on the world by their continued existence except maybe Minsc.

I got the game early and stopped playing it early, so that explains that.

I found Gale particularly grating anyway, but the bug made him seem even worse, I suppose.

You missed out on a lot (through no fault of your own, mind), he's objectively one of the better romance options. He's such a sweetheart when you get him to drop his egomaniacal archmage affectations.

He gets a lot better. He drops the big magic man persona and reveals a very scared and vulnerable core.

I didn't have Gale in my group of 4 so only got the basics of his story but he gets more friendly as the game goes on, never finished the game (should get on that) but I see a lot of fan art of him.. also I like his purple sweater shy I think it's the only camp outfit I didn't tinker with
