I was melt-casting ETN for the first time and fucked up real bad. The water bath had cooled to well below the melting point of ETN, but I didn't see anything solid, just a bunch of condensed water on the lid and in the container. I thought maybe it decomposed or something and thoughtlessly poked the puddle with my finger and OOOPS it was liquid ETN.

Maybe I accidentally supercooled it or something because it didn't feel like it was >60C. This experience makes me part of an extremely exclusive club for big dumb idiots. I'm very lucky to have not blown off my hand or face. ETN is a secondary explosive when solid, but while it's melted it's extremely sensitive, more than nitroglycerin.
