That might've been the case a few years ago, but very clearly wouldn't happen now. Anybody who was even remotely pro west has been ejected from power over the past two years.
Correct me if I’m wrong but did Putin actually apologize for ever trusting the West? I read that somewhere but I don't know if it’s true.
I don't recall that he apologized, but I did see a clip of him saying that he was naive to trust the west and it was one of the biggest mistakes he made. So there is a public acknowledgement from him that trying to work with the west was bad judgment on his part.
