A lot of fandom mantras about how utterly perfect Berman's era of Trek was ring hollow to me because of his blatant misogyny, his hostility toward even the idea that the Federation was a kinder society (and not "weaker" for it), and his cynical militaristic "Adults In The Room" war-crimes-apologia that dripped into anything he had a hand in.
Lots of people have made excuses for Berman's ideological inclusions, adding nuance that wasn't really intentionally there when Berman just wanted more war crimes and edgy black ops shit and wanted money at DS9 and wanted to objectify women around him and punish them for not pleasing him.
I like this piece, though it also reminds me of a great injustice during the show's run.
