Okay, now imagine using that weapon to such an extent that it is worn down.
It has bitten so many people its' teeth are useless.

Then imagine that you're the type of person who decides to "solve" this, not by looking into why your dog weapon is used so often that its' teeth are worn down, nor are you the person that thinks your companion weapon deserves to retire after long years of hard work. Instead you are the type of person who decides to surgically alter your canine colleague weapon, so you can force it to attack more people suspects.
