    It was a very stupid thing to do but I kind of feel sorry for these poor sods. They committed a victimless crime, and now they are going to be fucked for life due to the American credit score system. Other people get off much easier for doing a lot worse things.

    I feel the gloating online over them is a bit distasteful. If you can't tell that there's no way they'll let some nobody get away with this you're probably not the most resourceful person to begin with.

      Civil judgements are worse than bad credit if the they want them to be. They can garnish wages, take your tax returns, attach any property you have or get, etc. Even if you're broke and jobless they can haul you into court every year to file financial documents, just waiting until you have something to take. A lot of times they don't bother once they find out someone is broke they give up because of the legal costs, but in this case they're suing to make a point, not recover money.
