Please learn the concept of “then you don’t get to have it.” You are not entitled to consume it merely because it exists and is out of your reach. That’s some colonizer bullshit.

“It’s not available in my country! How am I supposed to watch it?”

You’re NOT supposed to watch it. It’s specifically not available to you.

“It’s an old show!”

I bet there’s a cassette tape on eBay or something. Or it’s lost to you. The impermanence of bourgeoisie Brooklyn podcast media.

“My parents won’t pay for it!”

So then you pay for it. The subscription is $5 a month.

“The Patreon is expensive!”

No it’s not. And Chapo Trap House is a luxury. You do not require it to survive and it is not inhumane to deny you access to it. You can also watch clips on YouTube for free with ads.

“I bought THE BOOK!” Cool. I bought the book because Virgil told me to. Buy access to the show too. It’s less expensive.

“But Cancel Culture takes from Amber and Will ruin the show!”

No it doesn’t, you’re just an asshole. How many times have you heard someone yell “YOLO!” or “YEET!” Or mention a meme in a localization? It’s done to make it accessible and relevant, not be transliteral. (BTW, next liberal blue check Witch coven meeting is at Matt Taibbi’s place)

In all seriousness, are there actually people who think that you should buy copies of old stuff on ebay instead of downloading it? The creators and publishers make no money either way

I’m one of those people. Buy old tapes on ebay.

Then, and this is the crucial step, digitize them and put them online.

Nice, what stuff do you look for to acquire and upload? I'd like to contribute, but most of my current collection are movies that aren't super hard to come by in digital form.

Primarily home recordings of TV since a lot of that stuff gets lost.

I’m not sure about digitizing other people’s home movies, though. That gets weird fast. Otoh, It would be really cool to take a box of someone’s home movies and edit them together into some kind of found footage horror movie.
