Normal person: "The Chinese rail system has grown up practically overnight. They've built thousands of miles of high speed track in a little over a decade. And their rail network is now a major productive engine of their economy. This proves such a sweeping infrastructure investment is both possible and profitable for the country that invests."

American person: "CHINA IS BUILDING FAST TRAINS! CHINA IS WINNING! We cannot let China win! We must BEAT CHINA! We will build a train that is bigger and faster than anything in China and we will RAM IT UP CHINA'S ASS! We must defeat the Yellow-Red Menace and declare victory over the Chinese Train Industry or we will be speaking Mandarin within the next decade! Do it for Liberty! Do it for Freedom! Do it for... nah, nevermind. Parliamentarian says we can't."

To "beat China" at infrastructure would require investment never before seen. Think the New Deal on steroids, but good for the environment. We could call it something like a new deal, but green. Hmm...

Going to call it the Black Lives Matter Deal and spend $1.9T on expanding the domestic electric car market.
