Holy shit

It's insane how you spend the entire game theorizing to yourself abt what the mysterious "truths" about Mari and Basil could be and it still manages to hit you like a fucking freight train near the end. The trail of photos that culminated in the picture of Mari standing at the top of the stairs, and then the slow realization of what really happened, had me frozen in my seat with my mouth agape. I'm amazed that they managed to pull off a twist like that without it seeming corny or insensitive, but it honestly worked and made sense.
There isn't some esoteric meaning behind all the fucked up supernatural entities manifested by Basil - I thought the reason behind them was brilliant (Basil is so in denial that Sunny could've accidentally killed Mari that he convinces himself some other mysterious force was behind it, and becomes paranoid and obsessively attached to Sunny to try and cope with/forget the truth).
And the very end, where Sunny finally "talks" was perfect. I just hope Basil was right and his friends could forgive him for what happened :)
(I got the "good ending" btw)
The characters were extremely well written, and the way the real and dream worlds related and interacted with each other was well done.
I also love how it managed to portray trauma and mental illness in general in a way that was both respectful and utterly terrifying, without resorting to grimdark edginess or (at the risk of sounding cynical) just taking the millennial "you are so heckin valid and its okay to feel" route like some other sentimental indie titles.
And without spoiling anything, be sure to water Basil's flowers whenever you get the chance for a nice little moment after the credits :)
