Indeed. It makes me happier that I switched full-time to Linux instead of just using it for my server. The transition was a bit rough, and the system is by no means perfect (some things are better, others are simply different, and others are definitely worse), but I feel cleaner for it.

Obviously it's lib-mindset to believe consumer choice will truly help the problem, but y'know...

Fedora, for the balance between rolling release and something like Ubuntu (too static).

Two tips. If you go with Fedora, check out RPMFusion. It's basically the extra repository for things that aren't officially distributed (due to Fedora's true commitment to FOSS). And if you use Gnome as your desktop environment, check out the extension Dash to Panel if you like the Windows task bar.

IMO Ubuntu is still one of the best beginner distros, because it does some things well out of the box that other distros inexcusably do worse at, e.g. font rendering. Also, it has such a large userbase that you can search "how do I <X> Ubuntu" and find up-to-date results.

Anyone ever read that article about the guy who wore Anti-Facial Recog Makeup for a day? It was basically Dazzle Paint from WW1 Ships but on your face. I can't remember where it was but I just remember thinking how cool that would be if it became an actual thing in the future.
