this is the problem with private sector under capitalism. if something isn't immediately profitable to capitalists then they cancel it even if it benefits society as a whole. Even state owned enterprises are forced to 'make profit' even if its at detriment to other sectors.
Small scale solar with battery storage is about 5 kEUR for a small home. But generator backup for those 15-20% of time not covered is about 1 EUR/kWh. Grid as backup is still cheaper, where available.
