Bobbed between mac and pc my whole life, always afraid of the biggest switch. Made the plunge today with the help of a good friend.
:che-poggers: Congratulations! It's always great seeing people ditch Micro$oft for free software!
I wanna install Linux but im too afraid and too stupid for my own good :ohnoes:
its not that difficult especially if you're using a more user friendly distro like ubuntu or mint. If you've every installed windows its not much different from that. You could try installing on a virtual machine if you wanna play around with it for a bit before.
you don't know the extent of my own stupidity :lenin-shining:
but jokes aside, if it is as easy as you say, I'll probably try to download and play around with Linux in a virtual machine to test the waters for a bit and maybe later I can install it on my main pc
i believe in you :3
but yea thats what i did. I installed like 10 different distros on virtual machines to try them all out, if you can do that I'm sure you could install it on your main pc. Another thing you could do is make a bootable USB. i have a bootable usb with parrotOS and another with TailsOS.
One distro to check out is Kubuntu. If you've any questions or concerns feel free to ask in the comm :)
Linux has more depth because it gives you more power. This can be intimidating but it's also a boon - if you want to change or fix something, you probably can.
I went the trial by fire approach and started with Gentoo, which makes you install everything from scratch, mostly manually, from the command line. It worked out well for me since I learned a lot, but you can also go the exact opposite route and use something like Ubuntu, picking up "power user" skills at your leisure.
Watch out, Ubuntu is the gateway drug. If you are not careful, you will ruin your life like I did. Ubuntu lead me to a life of cross compiling GCC builds for your LFS install as your girlfriend leaves you for being "boring".
