I mean if the purpose is to obscure you from Youtube tracking that's probably good but the suggestions on the front page are just as bad as regular youtube, doesn't seem to be any kind of improvement in that aspect

well my initial thought was 'but i've spent all this time eliminating that right wing shit from my suggestions" but i also scroll through my subscribed feed and only watch a little bit so maybe re-training the algo isn't such a big deal

except after I posted I realized there was a pew video on the front page. All the rest of the suggestions seemed way better than the usual shit but people are saying it's the same.

Yeah some people have said that. Are those the type of suggestions you'd normally be getting, outside invidious?

Gonna have to admit I don't go to the youtube homepage that often, but that from memory, the suggestions at the youtube homepage always seemed much more lobstery than invidious, even from different PCs or fresh installs or whatever.

ok, confirmed. suggestions are the same as always, I was wrong. The privacy and tracker blocking are worth it though.

Someone else said the same. I didn't go to the Youtube front page that often tbh, but it was always the worst kind of fluff with some lobster shit. The front page of invidious seemed a lot better, educational and techy stuff. Aren't the suggestions influenced by cookies, history and other metadata, so there'd be different suggestions on the invidious front page?

even without signing in or having an account they'll still have metadata, cookies and other identifiers that will influence your suggestions, I think

I saw that after I posted tbh. Almost every other suggestion was decent though, compared to youtube. Lots of kind of techy and educational stuff. It felt like the first time in forever I wasn't getting a lobster suggestion.

and the privacy that goes with snopyta, if true, is pretty great.

    This.

But you only linked one Invidious instance. Here's the list: https://github.com/iv-org/documentation/blob/master/Invidious-Instances.md
