I think the next decade or so is when we enter the phase of late stage capitalism where the capitalists just start stripping out all the copper wiring from capitalism. They will be perfectly OK seeing the US collapse so long as either A) there's some place for them to retreat to with all their wealth, or B) they're able to establish a sort of fiefdom that generates income and gives them power within the US. I don't mean a literal fiefdom, but more like "I own 100,000 acres of farmland and 4,000 apartment units spread out across the country that I draw rent from".
