Cold War worked because USSR was closed to the world. This situation is very different, the neoliberals in their infinite wisdom decided to export the entire means of production out of the imperial core so that there would be no industrial proletariat anymore. This industrial proletariat was the core of the left's organising base, they were incredibly easy to radicalise and organise.
That all resides in China now. China has the entire means of production hostage... And the western countries are reluctant to take it back because it would take a few decades to build it in their own countries again and cause considerable pain. On top of that it would undo a policy that literally helped them fight the left in the core for decades.
I don't think they have any options. They will either have to cave in or go to war.
Say what you will about Dengism, but I think often about what a fucking brilliant move it was to let the shortsighted Yankee capitalists sell you their means of production. Sucks for the left in the imperial core but Chinas global positioning now is much more secure because of their recognition of where power and value actually come from. :denguin:
