My twitter feed sorely lacks local leftists, so I started trying to follow any whenever I found them. Ended up with this one guy who's a perfectly acceptable fit, but then as soon as the new soccer stadium opened up here, he's posting pics from games and his avatar has the team logo. Unfollow. What kind of leftist enthusiastically supports this crap?

There's nothing wrong with liking sports. The only sports-related lefty red flags I can think of would be if the guy sides with the owners in a labor dispute, or if he's pushing for the public to finance some billionaire's stadium.

When you're taking selfies at the game in the new stadium wearing an official team jersey, you are part of the problem.

Yes, taking issue with another leftist because they have the temerity to enjoy popular recreation is stupid and counterproductive.

I didn't "take issue" with him I just didn't wanna see the stadium selfies so I unfollowed. Like, if you're gonna be a DSA guy, maybe keep that stuff separate. Like, is he gonna post photos from COTA when F1 comes to town, too?

Yeah I agree. Speaking of, was at a recent grilling thing, and a guy is there and p sure he's also into the damn soccer team and works for Apple (not retail) just to give you an idea, and it's last weekend so fire works are a topic and this guy shows me what Taiwan did with Taipei 101 for the lunar new year...

"Hey did you see the big-ass light shows that the mainland did for the 100th anniversary of the CPC"

He had not, but said he would check it out.

No but they both like the new soccer team and that's enough to associate them in my mind. Soccer is the game of white-collar tech and other PMC-types; I mean they built the stadium where most of the tech companies' offices are. It's not really there for most of Austin, IMO; it's there for the Silicon Valley transplants.

Ah, american soccer would be more “pmc” sport, gotcha.

Tbh, I understand frustration, people have weird quirks, it’s like search for one true leftist :meow-cactus:
