I mean "punk" in the DIY sense, I don't care if my games are bad or whatever, I just want to do it because I want to move away from consuming things to making things. I want to give these away for free because it's just a hobby. Been playing games since grade school, and I want to try to make something for once. I have a CS degree but I have never made anything on my own outside of school or work.
Are there any suggested pieces of open-source/FOSS software I can load up on my busted laptop to kick-start this creative endeavor? I know C/C++ and a little JAVA, so anything around there would be a good start with regard to code. I know about GIMP and BLENDER are good alternatives to MEGACORP products, but that's my end knowledge of FOSS software regarding game development.
Do any of you have suggestions I should add to my list?
I heard great things about Godot.
I didn't even know it's a thing but now I do. It looks very FOSS-y and that's exactly what I'm looking for, thank you.
