I'm not sure what Shrek's issue with Nord is. I'm using it currently and as far as torrenting goes, it does the job. My bloodsucking monopoly broadband provider will shut down my connection for 24 hours and send threatening letters the second I torrent anything of cultural significance. Their one job is to be a condom between my bittorrent client and my ISP.

What is very important to understand though is that not every VPN service is the same. Take these big VPN providers like PrivateInternetAccess and NordVPN for example. They are large enterprises with operations in dozens of countries. While they claim they record no logs, they're in it for the money. They have a fiduciary responsibility to their investors, and that puts them at the mercy of whatever state they operate in. They are marketed mainly towards people who torrent or bypass region blocks. They work well if you're trying to shitpost on the corporate wifi or share some movies. Though I wouldn't trust them if I were making enemies with anyone bigger than Mickey Mouse. That's not their business model, and sticking their neck out that far would endanger them.
