It's any process that chrome runs outside of the regular browser process (can involve outside content on the page, extensions, etc)

Chrome is not a light browser and unfortunately by following their standards, most websites are impossible to fully render without needing a non-light browser.

For what it's worth, Brave Browser is based on chrome but doesn't have as many active processes as chrome (cuts out some of the chrome bloat).
