Kenshi, go find the anti-slavers, wage war with half the continent, bonus points for overthrowing the holy nation first. Don't build a base your first time through, just buy houses in different towns depending on your needs.
I did have an alright time, though was mildly frustrated with how crap your characters start at. I think I have a save somewhere.
