When I'm watching a video, if I click a jump-to-time link in the description, it opens the same video in a new popout player. Is there any way to make it just jump forward in the current, main video player?

Not that I'm aware of. I think this is done intentionally, otherwise the user would lose their current scroll position in the comments or the description
