The story is a lot better though. We just had a year long arc where the Guardians find common ground with the Fallen and Cabal against the Vex and Hive.
And the gameplay has improved. This year's seasonal events have been really cool, with a lot more depth, variety, and story integration than previous years.
So if you're willing to put up with the MMO skinner box grind it's improved a lot. If not, stay away!

I used to be a super hardcore destiny 1 player, but honestly the game was like an abusive relationship.
