My first is coming very very soon and I wanted to get a thing of formula beforehand in case we need to supplement, but looking at them all is very overwhelming.

Get a brand/variant that’s approved by WIC. Most of them are nutritionally complete and the differences between brands are minimal. But just to make sure you’re not getting scammed and undernourishing your newborn, look up the WIC list for your area. It’ll usually be one of the most common ones in stock. These ones are reviewed by nutritionists and should work as well as anything else.

Edit: assumed you were American. Sorry if you’re not

Of course. I know the first one can be super overwhelming just because of how much info there is. If your baby isn’t growing well or getting the nutrients they need, their doctor will let you know and make recommendations for different supplements or variants of formula.

Oh, and if you end up using a bag to hold the powder, make sure to switch the bag. I know someone who didn’t and they weren’t letting the bag empty beforehand, so once they got to the bottom of the bag they were feeding their kid months-old stale formula. The sealable bags are great because it’s super easy to drop the canister and formula is so goddamn expensive
