If you want to explore some Fediverse stuff, there's a special Mastodon instance that operates as a chess bot to facilitate games.

Why not join in at c/games for the time being? I'll talk chess with you. Also it should be c/hess.
already there but chess talk seems closer to talk about a specific sport, than fitting in with general games talk
I guess the chess subreddit meets my needs just fine, anyway. I just like the idea of having a community of chess-playing communists.
Yeah, chess has a bunch of cool theory and history to discuss. A community in the future would be cool.
how do i get good at chess i have a hard time beating the bot on lichess should i just play against players
The bot at which level? Modern chess engines are better than the best humans, you will never beat the bot at highest
My recommendation for getting better at chess is playing ranked on lichess with a time-control that gives you some time to think. Then when you get beaten, you look at the game to see what your enemy did and try to emulate that. And when you get beaten trying to do that you learn from that for the next time people try the thing against you again.
Also, lectures on youtube.
Full disclosure, I'm not good at chess.
ive been trying to get into chess on and off for years but ive never really played alot against other players
the matchmaking on lichess is very good and a great place to learn, strong recommendation
lichess also has the option to get a bot to analyse your game after. It will point out errors and blunders you made and show better moves. depending on your level winning games can be as simple as making less mistakes.
