Hello Hexbear and Lemmygrad,
on grad we have a minecraft comunity with an associated minecraft server and matrix server. The server has been online sence quite a bit of time already, however, our playerbase is verry low and from my observation it seems most peoples aren't aware of it or of /c/minecraft in general. And so, I took it upon myself to see if there is peoples who would be interested in joining.
How to join the server is explained here
ShowShow
Jeez I need to come back to that server, had the honor of building some stuff there myself. Such a wonderful place to be in, 100% recommend
The map has been reset, the old one isn't deleted but the current server's map is brand new and doesn't have any of the old buildings
That's sad. Was it intentional or something happened to the server?
Is it possible to get a world download of the old map? Or at least that part of the map where my builds are, so i can keep them for future reference?
Also, if i want to get back into playing on the new map, is the server address still the same and am i still whitelisted?
Can you use rsync, or ftp?
Or should I zip it and make it available from a browser?
Btw, it's 4.8 GB
I don't know what rsync is or how to use ftp, but if you want to walk me through it i can try to figure it out. Otherwise just zipping it and uploading it somewhere is probably simplest for those of us who are a bit tech illiterate.
If you think the file is too big to upload you can cut down the world size by pruning out the region files where nothing has been built.
I'm not sure what region files to prune. So I said fuck it and made a 7zip with the entire thing, it's only 3,5GB now, have fun: https://data2.encryptionin.space/world.7z
I had the opportunity to play for a week or so, when I had access through game pass on an Xbox, but I no longer do. It was amazing, I've never felt so much at home in a multiplayer environment like when I was playing with y'all.
I wish this would be happening with Minetest instead of Minecraft, the price of Minecraft is a gatekeeping factor for many, including myself.
Have you tried downloading a free cracked version launcher?
In the meantime, you can at least join the matrix server.
I recommend UltimMC, though the server will need to have "online-mode" set to off, which will disable Mojang server validation and present some security vulnerabilities.
though the server will need to have “online-mode” set to off
We do in fact.
Oh, looks a bit complicated, not sure I'll be able to set this up, but I will definitely try tomorrow, first thing in the morning. Nonetheless, I'll be asking some questions on Matrix if I run into problems. Thanks in advance!
If it really doesn't work, you can easily find an other one, there are plenty of crack launchers out there
I also wish Minetest was considered. It is totally configurable with a plethora of mods, all of which are optional, and is totally free. And I just find it much nicer than Minecraft in general.
But I understand that hosting a server is not easy, and personally I don't think I could host a Minetest server at this time.
Sounds interesting. I've never been on a server myself. It would be nice to meet with folks from Lemmy on the server and build something together.
Strange, it keeps saying "Please log into Xbox to join this server" each time I try to join.
It seems you are trying to log in from Bedrock edition, unfortunately it seems I can't do anything about the Xbox login requirement.
Yes, indeed. That's sad, I don't want to create an account and I find Minecraft awkward to play on a computer :(
