It's cause the entire political class in EU decides to go all in on the war. Once the war is lost, a lot of these people will become politically toxic and it's going to be career ending for them. They're scared and desperate at this point because they see the writing on the wall, they see the US abandoning them, and they're now realizing that Trump whom they have terrible relations with will most likely win the election. So, they're just doing the sunk cost fallacy and trying to keep this thing going as long as humanly possible.
