Liberals stand for Authoritarian Capitalism and Totalitarian Capitalism after all... There is more freedom and democracy under Socialism/Communism than under Capitalism...

Some countries (try) to ban them.

Chinese kinda famously has many restrictions on what they allow, so citizens there have come up with some pretty innovative ways to get around it. "Shadowsocks" proxy was created from it. It allows users to proxy without detection. Pretty neat.

      Pretty sure Turkey banned porn.

A bunch of US states have as well. In effect anyway. They put impossible-to-meet requirements for identification to prove site visitors are 18+ so the websites, for liability reasons, pulled out (heh) of those states. Utah, Virginia, some others. It SHOULD be talked about more but Americans only care about censorship elsewhere ie Turkey. Their porn ban is called ban. American one is never talked about.

UK also has restrictions and actively (gestapo shit) tracks down people who circumvent their shit. And no, it isn't just pedo shit that everyone agrees shouldn't exist. I forget the exact content, but much of it I remember being rather benign or vanilla like spanking in porn, etc. I'd have to look into it again.

And broadly speaking the EU and US have been lightly testing and poking at banning VPNs for like at least a decade now. Every time a terrorist attack occurs or a large ring of pedos is brought down the anti-civil rights weirdos pounce on the moment to scream "but the kids!!! We have to ban personal VPNs to protect the children! No no not because it might sometimes, if used correctly, make our total surveillance state harder to operate, but because look! Bombings! And a super tiny portion of the internet was a FBI-operated pedo ring!"

Liberals eat that dogshit up immediately or try browbeating you for "not caring" but it's possible, brain explosion!, to believe in a free, open internet with some reasonable restrictions and that people have an absolute right to privacy for whatever reasons they may choose. Privacy obviously doesn't extend into the realm of illegal, immoral activities (key there is immoral. They MOSTLY just want to make any kind of dissent, organizing for labor, etc. and media piracy harder. None of which is immoral) and if you're doing illegal shit it will surface eventually. They don't need more tools. And we shouldn't acquiesce to such demands.
