I had a gross, stinky boss. He quit in a big dramatic display and everyone's glad he's gone. I got his work tablet, which is nice, but it reeks of cigarettes. It's gross and I don't want to put it in my bag. I've thoroughly cleaned it with alcohol wipes, and that's helped but not nearly enough.
My partner found a nice PC case in the garbage, but it was caked in cigarette tar as well. He used vinegar, baking soda and coffee grounds. But it took like two weeks of cleaning regularly.
He left a container of baking soda and a container of coffee grounds inside the case and cleaned frequently for like two weeks.
I agree with the other posters suggesting baking soda. Would also suggest vinegar and time, unfortunately.
