Strahd von Zarovich is a vampire and lord of the valley of Barovia. He is perhaps one of the most recognized characters in all of TTRPGs and of Dungeon and Dragons specifically.

Strahd is the central villian to his own Campaign module known as Curse of Strahd in Fifth Edition, and has appeared in every edition of Dungeons and Dragons starting from Advanced D&D with Ravenloft.

We're not going to get into spoilers, so instead we'll talk a little on the history.

As far back as the original D&D edition, authors Tracy and Laura Hickman wanted to create a more structured campaign outside of random dungeons and fighting for XP and gold. The story goes during a game of DnD the party Tracy was in encountered a vampire, which stuck out to him because he was basically just there. He and his wife would work on fleshing out the idea of a vampire in a dungeon, creating histories, towns, enemies, and a horror story atmosphere. They would playtest Ravenloft every Halloween, with it's own system, before getting the attention of TSR, publishers of DnD. Strahd has a story interwoven with the setting of Barovia itself, many of the characters a player can encounter has some connection with Strahd, if not just a victim of his oppressive presence.

Also the Vistani are ersatz Roma people and really could've been handled better.

A musician friend of mine caught covid recently at a show and the only time he didnt have a mask was when he performed, which is exactly the sort of anxiety that’s been destroying me as we reopen

Learning more about how transmission works has helped me with the anxiety somewhat. That's a very high risk scenario you describe. At a show there are tons of people shouting and talking loudly, and poor ventilation. It only takes a couple breaths of aerosol-laden air like that to get infected. You don't need to be anywhere close to someone who is infectious, for any extended period of time, as aerosols diffuse throughout the space.
