Vegan butter sub with 5 spice make some amazing mashed potatoes, bonus points for adding a tiny bit of nutritional yeast (the nuttiness goes well with both). Very simple, just get the spice and mash some potatoes. Completely amazing taste wise.
On a lark I put some malt vinegar on there and I liked it, but that might be good to the general audience. Vinegar and potato might be too bri’ish for some.
5 spice like the "Chinese 5 spice" blends at the grocery store?
Yeah, the five spices I question vary a bit apparently, but whatever is in the blend in The store brand from the one I work at slaps.
It doesn’t list ratios. But the descending order of ingredients by amount is: Anise, Fennel, Szechuan pepper, cinnamon, and clove. It says it contains salt, but lists it separately for some reason.
Thanks for the knowledge regarding what constitutes a spice/herb/whatever category edible minerals go into.
