I mean, this sort of is the materialism of weird internet shit. Google rolled out a badly designed thing, this guy is well-versed enough in all the context to figure out exactly what's wrong and how to fix it, big company doesn't really give a shit. I'm not really a Drew Devault guy, I think his new language seems kind of niche at best, but if my little open source repo hosting service kept getting it's shit fucked in by Google being lazy with nothing I could do about it, I'd probably complain a few times too.
