A trailer for a co-op Spider-Man game has leaked online following the data breach at Insomniac Games in December 2023.
The trailer, which can be viewed here shows a 5 player co-op live service take on Spider-Man which was likely part of Sony’s push into live service games.
Thankfully Sony is walking back those live service ambitions and The Great Web was never officially announced and has been cancelled by Sony.
The multiplayer mode would have made an interesting addition to Spider-Man 2 but is unlikely to have impressed as a stand alone live service game.
Live service games are just another example of the falling rate of profit worming its way into the games industry.
Capitalist enshitification ruins everything.
the games that are being cancelled in this window were basically games that likely got funded during covid. covid had a huge spike of gamers, so business money was thrown at it, and its only now where theyre starting to back off, as consumer demand wanes a bit.
its why you probably hear about a lot of cancellations, layoffs, and dev studios being traded/closed down. its affecting any publicly traded team for the most part, whether it was live service or not.
None of that contradicts anything I said.

Is it so hard to say, "I agree" ?
Contrarian? lmao I was just pointing out that the capitalist profit motive creates shitty products like live services and is also responsible for cancelling potentially great stuff like the Wile E Coyote movie.
I don't think you understand what contrarian means.
Live service games are the natural reaction to that phenomenon. When capital foresees losses, it just squeezes harder.
