      Some will probably retort "so what? they've got character". So often I've seen "character" used as a bailout for something this country does horribly.

      • That place looks run-down? Nah, it has character.
      • Dual-tap sinks where you can choose between freezing or scalding water to wash your hands? Perfectly fine, it builds character.

      There's no way 2 million people don't notice the smell. Do they just really don't give a fuck? Like how does wiping your body with something that smells like death compute for them?

        If you don't know that towels can be clean, they may not recognise it as a 'smell'. By that point it's just part of the atmosphere.
