Honestly, I expect this country will have the same choice as always- socialism, or barbarism. And it'll choose barbarism, whether it's full fash or the Trudeau flavor of lib-fascism.
And as someone who will almost definitely find themselves in the crosshairs (trans, ethnic Chinese, technically an immigrant though raised here since I was 2, a dirty commie), and already feels deeply not only disillusioned but alienated from much of this country's society- frankly, I can't even bring myself to care too much, even if I can't escape (though I hope to leave the country beforehand, or at least find some means of insulating myself and those I care about if things presumably remain survivable, if not quite livable).
I'd love it if things could change for the better here, but the social contract is done and dead, and I have no real hope for this society without revolution- or rather, I know better than to expect any hope for this society without it. Frankly I think most people regardless of political orientation feel the same way- things are bad and will get worse until they explode, but until then most of us have too much to lose to stick our neck out- and also, for one reason or another we all have reasons to hate and distrust each other, and increasingly most of the population also has very good reasons to hate even the notion of Canada due to how badly this country is fucking us over.
yeah, Canadians are just too fucking stupid to do anything useful. and we still have too much to lose as you said. so nothing will change until the crises boil over into fucking Nazi Germany shit.
Pretty much.
In the meantime, after reading this and going doomscrolling and seeing this godawful quote- here's our PM on BBC today-
Not that I put any value in electoralism nor have for years at this point, but we're so fucked. Existence in this settler-colonial shithole is torture, liberate us please President Xi
The RCMP report also includes a number of other hot button issues. Erosion in trust in the West, paranoid populism, big data harvesting, climate change, and artificial intelligence were amongst the issues they briefly mention.
I really want to know what is considered paranoid populism according to them
