I mean there's about as many people supporting it as there are people against it, maybe there is some hope?
Dr. Socrates
During his time at Corinthians, Sócrates co-founded the Corinthians Democracy movement, in opposition to the then-ruling military government. Sócrates and his teammates protested against the regime's treatment of footballers, and showed support to the wider movement for democratisation, by wearing shirts with "Democracia" written on them during games.
Sócrates stated that three of his childhood heroes were Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and John Lennon. He also said that "Lula was good" but that he had "earned a mere seven or so out of ten" for his way of governing Brazil.
:gigachad:
Back in the day everyone talked about how god damn cool he was as a player. The dude earning a medical degree while playing as well as being a socialist is incredible
I think it also helps that the sport is massive in the global south and that most clubs began as a bunch of working class people wanting to have some fun on days off. But back in 2019 when Corbyn was running I remember him getting a lot of pushback for being "too left" etc. I'm sure the post will be brigaded by chuds eventually anyway.
Soccer is cool because many clubs were started by workers. But soccer has become a sport where parasitical owners have destroyed it. I got downvoted there because I still found the salty :amerikkka:. Anyway it wasn’t that bad but it’s pretty nice to see people on :reddit-logo: actually support dr Socrates.
