Had a similar experience myself.
:melon-musk: in particular is rather insidious for a personal reason. He quite literally bought his way into becoming a Mascot for not just futurism, but science itself.
He inherited his wealth and bought Tesla and bought Paypal, and cosplays as an actual engineer. People are dumb enough to eat it all up, but they show no respect for the sciences before musk and they do not respect actual scientists, and will blindly trust what they want to be true rather than what is actually true.
