I'm shower thoughting something that is spiritually a smaller 40k clone but I replace Space Marines with Space Dwarves. I'm going nuts with my other 3 slightly more original race ideas, but I haven't really had too many thoughts about what I should do with the dwarves. I'm also trying to ignore 40k's squats for the sake of originality. All I really got going in my head is that they'll be like Space Marines with their helmets off and have huge beards like in LotR.

If it all works out, it'll be a shitty indie game. I don't want to piss off people who like Dwarves. The other races will be far more non-humanoid/alien than simply "elves/gnomes/humans but in space".

Any thoughts/recommendations on what to do about dwarves? Good youtube videos?
