The Northeast Corridor just looks bad because the tech is from the 30s. It also doubles as power lines and other wired tech in some places, which is why it looks so ugly. Additionally, this train is passing underneath some signals, which adds even more clutter. Here's what a modern high-speed line looks like. I'll admit that they still get in the way of the view a little, but the benefit is immense.
i know there are engineers who'll say traction lines are a more efficient way to power rails, but they make the train tracks look so bad :(
