Yeah makes sense. Mine is an early model and I'm pretty sure its moddable... If you can't find another and you're desperate lemmie know I'd prob swap with ya since I don't plan on modding it. No biggie though just throwing that out there.
That's incredibly kind of you to offer - I own an early model myself so that won't be necessary :) I'm hoping to mod my friends' systems in the future, if I can find out more about the status of these mod chips
Just wanted to give you an update on some of the info I've found - as another comrade below has pointed out in this thread, the modchip is totally for sale out there, it's just a little harder to find. There are guides for installing it online, it doesn't look very difficult at all.

They've been out of manufacture for a very long time now. I imagine that they're probably very hard to find, and only going to get harder over time.
