    This reminds of that time Australia spied on East Timor, a country only recently ravaged by an Indonesian invasion we initially supported, to get a better position during negotiations so we could steal most of their offshore oil and gas.

    It's also possible that we only switched to supporting East Timor's independence partly so we could steal their natural resources, because it'd be too difficult to do so if they remained annexed by Indonesia.
