Are there even any games with good african hair? They only have dreads, Black powers and that's it. The only one I can remember that did it well was Baldurs Gate 3.
Star Wars: The Old Republic actually had passable braid/dread middlegrounds and a couple decent fades, but Disney is one of the bankrollers of Israel's pogroms, so I dropped that and moved on. My problem is I was a FFXIV player, but... The only options are either an obscenely-jigglebone'd afro, or a gender and race-locked dreadlock mesh that only like, f!Elezen and f!Miqo'te get there, and the overall lack of coarse hair is ruining all of my melanated characters because I'm like seven years sick of seeing white people hair on folk that are most certainly not supposed to be white people
And if I run mods that means I have to spend up to a month waiting for my mods to patch after the actual patches come out; which means I miss chunks of raid prog because SqEx doesn't know how to Black hair and doesn't seem invested in trying from how they answered "why is FFXVI's setting so white"
Yeah FFXIV has some serious problems with the hairstyles. I'd love some actual curly hair but even that seems outside the devs minds. Heck, they only realised black skin looked terrible in the game's lighting once they made (after 10 years mind you) a black skinned main character. Only then did they decide to do something about it.
I'm convinced the only way we'd ever see coarse hair is if against all odds, we got the Killmonger hairdo as an entrant in a hair design contest; and it'd still probably get beat out by $sideCharacterHairstyleFromAGaidenGameThatNoOneThinksAboutTilItsTimeToNotBeInternationalDespiteBeingInternational, so that's a lot of why I'm just looking for anything else. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll be able to port over acceptable expies of my WoL.
Well if you want a MMO with these customization options, you could take a look at Guild Wars 2. It might not be your jam but you could just download it and try out the character creator to see if it has what you are looking for.
Some of those actually look pretty good tho, that's wild-- kinda wish there were better options for beastfolk that actually had that hair; 'cause I don't run humans-- porting my WoLs here would mean humanizing everyone but the Hrothgar; and that's a step down for all of em lmao
