Kiddo 2 has been eating like crazy this past week. Think we're looking at a growth spurt in the near future.

One of the problems with being a step dad (Although I don't really know if I qualify for that title) is that you're still getting used to the whole dadding about thing and the kid is pretty fucking experienced at being a kid. You're starting out with a pretty significant disadvantage.

Yeah I have to imagine that's challenging. Struggling with anything specific? Or is it just a general notion?

It's just a constant barrage of minor things. My biggest issue is just finding out where I fit into his daily routine, one that's built up around an every-other-weekend dad and a basically single mom. But also just the instinct for taking responsibility for another person that's been drilled into my partner.

The kid has managed to subvert our strategy of the United Front. He pulled the "Mom said I could"/"Quimps said i could" double lie. He even did it with something innnocuous so we didn't catch on the first two times. I have been outskilled, outplayed, and frankly bamboozled.

The punishment for such a transgression is of course that he will not be getting any of the sweets at family game night. But even worse, his mom and I have arranged for all the sweets to be the adult sweets that he doesn't like, so even if he manages to sneak one it'll be awful mwahahahaha.

This double lie is so intuitive, Kiddo 1 seems to have picked it up somehow, but she's yet to out flank us with it LOL. I've resorted to saying "Well, lets go find out." when I'm met with "Mom said I could!", which so far is a highly effective reverse uno.

That's an excellent counter ploy, and one I shall add to my repertoire. Last time I just texted her without doing the "Oh let's check" routine which caught him out.
I wonder how this is going to play out if he ropes his bio-dad into this, as he's both rarely home and rarely answers his phone. Sort o hoping we can get this out of his system before he tries it.

Although what kind of kid doesn't like marzipan I mean honestly. Ar your age I was up for any kind of candy that wasn't filled with liquor or the super dark chocolate with like bits of fruit in it. Which a lot of this is to be fair. I still don't like those either.
Thinking about it, my partner has just managed to wrangle this so 95% of the candy is for her alone.
    I have been outplayed twice.
