I don't know if this is the right community, if it isn't warn me and I'll move the post!

So I saw a meme about piracy on reddit (apparently a tankie HQ) and I wanted to share it on the biggest piracy instance on the fediverse, with good intentions I post, it gets some replies, but the funny thing is I can't reply as the post has been removed by the admins of that instance.

I couldn't care less, it's just a low-quality meme, in fact I'm amused more than I'm sad. These libs are doing what the US state dept was doing during the cold war FOR FREE!

I hope you all can share my amusement at the fact that apparently all it takes nowadays to be called a tankie is to be against big tech and to post from a mainstream instance. You don't even have to be a communist, it's full paranoia on their part at this point.

The meme in question, nothing "tankie" about it as far as I can tell.

Edit: btw the community about censorship on lemmy has been.... Eliminated

I guarantee it's because of the word "privileged", what a bunch of absolute babies. A lot of db0 users are cool but their admins are so fuckin libertarian-brained. Hey jackasses, it's not "tankie" to point out that if you spend a large amount of your time browsing an internet forum you are probably decently well off in life. Also the meme is making fun of people who are anti-piracy! Its on your side!!

I spend a lot of time browsing an internet forum because I'm unemployed and homeless and I need a distraction to occupy my brain and keep the PTSD flashbacks away. Back when I had a job, I spent less time online because I was busy actually doing it. But I did still need to spend more time online than most people because if I let myself just enjoy life in the moment and clear my mind, the flashbacks from my abuse would come in and ruin my day with feelings of powerlessness, fear, and anger. Now that I have PTSD and also live in a homeless shelter, I spend more time online than before.

Why would well off people spend more time online? Most of the chronically online people I know need lots of time on the internet because they're trans, disabled, or unemployed. If meatspace was kind to them, they'd spend more time there, but it's not. They're the kind of people who are looking for an escape because life is cruel to them.

That's fair and I don't mean to discount your experience. A better phrasing would be, if someone is chronically obsessed with "the tankies" to the point that they actively moderate benign stuff off of an internet forum and do the state department's Red Scare propagandizing for free, that person is almost certainly middle-class and well-off at the very least. It's the same demographic that dominates reddit and the wider lemmyverse is just reddit 2.0

I'm sorry for your shitty situation, friend, I hope things get better for you meow-hug
