naaah the easiest way it to jam your thumb into the central root at the bottom and pull out the root and all the skin in one go by tucking your thumb under the skin. takes like 5 seconds
no knife needed

This is the only way I’ve ever peeled oranges. Why else would it be so easy to jam your thumb into the orange?
Also it's nice to peel it off in a spiral pattern. When you get it all the way off you can stand up the peel in a spheroid shape like there's still an orange inside it, it's fun.
